Boost for Highland connectivity as new coverage goes live

17 June 2026: Momentum continues to build across the Shared Rural Network, with a new Total Not Spot site now live at Scardroy, around 45km west of Inverness. This latest activation is another meaningful step towards improving connectivity in some of the UK’s hardest-to-reach areas, helping to reduce long-standing coverage gaps.

Ben Whitestone, Interim CEO at BDUK, said:

“UK Government funded masts like this one in the Highlands are being activated as part of the Shared Rural Network, delivering improved connectivity for rural residents, businesses and visitors. It’s great to see this latest milestone in an investment which supports efforts to reduce coverage gaps and strengthen local communities and economies.”

The programme continues at pace, with further work underway across multiple sites and more coverage improvements still to come.
